New Delhi, Sept 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday was presented India’s first fully indigenous chip, the Vikram 32-bit microprocessor, developed by ISRO’s Semiconductor Laboratory and designed to function even in the extreme conditions of launch vehicles.

The milestone was marked at the inauguration of Semicon India 2025 in Delhi, where Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the processor along with test chips from four sanctioned projects.

Vaishnaw highlighted that within just three and a half years of launching the India Semiconductor Mission, the nation had progressed to a stage where “the world is looking at India with confidence.” He noted that five semiconductor manufacturing units are currently under rapid construction.

Acknowledging the global environment, the minister said that policy instability worldwide had created uncertainty, while India stood out as a “lighthouse of stability and growth.”

He urged industry leaders to invest in India, stressing that its policies remain steady and reliable despite global turbulence.

The event was also attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Jitin Prasada.
