Itanagar, Sept 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated a series of infrastructure projects in Arunachal Pradesh valued at ₹5,125.37 crore, marking a significant step toward enhancing the state’s energy and development landscape.

From a function held at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, he virtually laid the foundation stones for key initiatives.

The programme was attended by Governor KT Parnaik, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who underscored the importance of these projects in accelerating Arunachal Pradesh’s infrastructure and socio-economic growth.

Among the key initiatives, Modi virtually laid the foundation stones for two major hydropower projects in Shi Yomi district. The Tato-I project, with a generation capacity of 186 MW and costing ₹1,750 crore, is expected to produce around 802 million units of electricity annually.

The Heo project, a 240 MW facility at an investment of ₹1,939 crore, will generate approximately 1,000 million units per year. Both projects, situated on the Yarjep river, are designed to expand Arunachal Pradesh’s hydroelectric capacity and strengthen regional energy security, officials said.

In addition, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for a state-of-the-art convention centre in Tawang under the PM-DevINE scheme, at a cost of ₹145.37 crore. Designed to accommodate over 1,500 guests, the facility aims to enhance the region’s tourism and cultural offerings while meeting international standards.
