International Conference on Thermofluids Engineering kicks off at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

 

Dhanbad, Oct 10: The three-day 1st International Conference on Thermofluids Engineering (INCOTHERM 2025) commenced today at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Poh Seng (P.S.) Lee, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), as chief guest, and Prof. Sarit Kumar Das, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras, as guest of honour.

Global Experts Address Inaugural Session

The conference, organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT (ISM), saw participation from international and national experts including Prof. P.S. Lee (NUS, Singapore), Prof. B.B. Saha (Kyushu University, Japan), Prof. S.K. Das (IIT Madras), Prof. M. Ramgopal (IIT Kharagpur), Prof. A. Agrawal (IIT Bombay), and Prof. S. Ansumali (JNCASR, Bengaluru).

Prof. Lee highlighted the growing importance of sustainable cooling, energy efficiency, and waste heat recovery in modern industrial systems. He emphasized the challenges of thermal management in high-performance setups like data centers in tropical climates, where hot and humid conditions restrict free cooling.

He advocated for a climate-aware design approach and stressed the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and industry partnerships to develop climate-resilient technologies.

Emphasis on Academic Environment and Talent Utilization

Prof. Sarit Kumar Das underlined the importance of fostering an enabling academic environment in Indian institutions. While acknowledging India’s abundant talent, he stressed the need to channel this potential effectively for impactful outcomes.

IIT (ISM) Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra reflected on India’s rich legacy of science and technology rooted in ancient scriptures. He distinguished between Gyan (knowledge), Vigyan (scientific analysis of knowledge), and Pradyogiki Vigyan (technology), emphasizing the application of scientific knowledge for economic growth and national development.

Prof. Somnath Chattopadhyay, Head of Mechanical Engineering and Chairman of INCOTHERM 2025, welcomed the guests, delegates, and participants. Prof. Pawan Kumar Singh, Convener, delivered the welcome address outlining the objectives and themes of the conference, while Prof. Deepak Kumar, Joint Convener, proposed the vote of thanks.
