Chandigarh, Oct 13: The BJP received a boost on Monday as former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Jagdeep Singh Cheema joined the party, with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini welcoming him at a ceremony attended by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu and Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma.

Sharma hailed Cheema’s induction as a sign that those committed to Punjab’s progress are aligning with the BJP. He contrasted the BJP’s development agenda with what he called the “failures” of the Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing it of neglecting the state since assuming power in 2022.

Criticising Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration, Sharma said the AAP had betrayed women by not fulfilling its promise of giving ₹1,000 per month to every woman.

He highlighted that, unlike Punjab, the Haryana government under Saini is providing ₹2,100 monthly assistance to eligible women through the Lado Lakshmi Yojana and ensuring MSP for all crops.

Cheema, son of former Punjab minister Randhir Singh Cheema, had earlier contested assembly elections from Amloh (2012) and Fatehgarh Sahib (2022) on a SAD ticket.
