THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Oct 23: Amid preparations for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the election authorities have begun strict monitoring of campaign material being circulated through electronic and social media platforms.

The Election Commission has clarified that no political party, candidate, or supporter can broadcast campaign content on television, radio, private FM channels, cinema halls, social media platforms (such as Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, etc.), or any other audio-visual medium without prior approval from the District-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC).

Unauthorized Campaigning Considered Code of Conduct Violation

According to the election office, any campaign material shared without MCMC approval will be treated as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The candidates or parties involved will be subject to action.

The committee has the authority to scrutinize any audio, video, or graphic material to ensure it does not contain discriminatory, hateful, or misleading content against any community, class, or individual. Political parties and candidates must submit their campaign content—including video clips, advertisements, jingles, speeches, or social media posts—for certification before the committee.

After review, the committee will grant approval only if the material complies with the rules. Only after receiving permission can the content be used for election campaigning.

Social Media Oversight Intensified

Given the growing influence of internet media, the Election Commission has directed candidates to provide details of all their official social media handles and accounts at the time of nomination. Any unapproved or misleading content found on digital platforms must be removed immediately, and action will be taken against the responsible individual.
