Dhanbad, Oct 28: In a breakthrough, Dhanbad Police arrested two wanted criminals from Bihar before they could execute a planned jewellery shop dacoity in the coal city. The duo was apprehended with illegal arms during a late-night vehicle checking drive at Bank More on Sunday.

 Arrested Before Crime Execution

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Naushad Alam informed that the arrested individuals have been identified as Ajay Kumar alias Abhijit (29) and Dilip Yadav (28), both residents of East Champaran and Motihari districts of Bihar, respectively.

The police recovered one country-made pistol, two live cartridges, a mobile phone, and a TVS Apache motorcycle from their possession. According to police sources, the criminals had arrived in Dhanbad four days earlier with plans to commit a jewellery shop robbery.

 Police Chase and Arrest

Acting on the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, the police had set up vehicle checking points at Bank More. At around 8:45 PM on Sunday, officers spotted two suspects on a motorcycle approaching JP Chowk. On noticing the police, the duo abandoned their bike and attempted to flee, but were soon caught after a brief chase.

Four of their accomplices managed to escape on other motorcycles, the DSP confirmed. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining gang members.

 History-Sheeters with Multiple Cases

DSP Alam stated that both arrested men are history-sheeters with several criminal cases registered against them at different police stations in Motihari and East Champaran districts.

The Bank More police team, comprising Inspectors Md Tariq Wasim, Abhay Kumar Singh, Shabaz Ansari, Sanjay Kumar Kushwaha, and Dinesh Kumar, successfully intercepted and nabbed the duo.
