THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Ranchi, Oct 28: Delhi Public School (DPS) Ranchi organised a memorable week-long trip from October 22 to October 28 to Dudhwa National Park, combining adventure, environmental learning, and cultural exploration to foster students’ curiosity and compassion.
A group of 31 students, accompanied by four teachers, participated in this experiential learning journey, combining exploration, teamwork, and environmental awareness. The trip encouraged students to discover the wonders of the wild while developing a strong sense of responsibility towards nature and conservation.
Discovering Culture and Heritage in Lucknow
The adventure began as the group departed from Ranchi by train, later travelling to Lucknow, the “City of Nawabs.” The students explored the city’s architectural heritage, visited historical landmarks, and experienced the charm of its rich cultural traditions, gaining insights into India’s diverse history before heading to the wilderness.

Immersed in the Heart of Dudhwa National Park
Upon arrival at Dudhwa National Park, students were captivated by the serenity of the forest. The day’s first activity, “DARE: Investigating Jungle Matters in a Unique Dimension,” encouraged keen observation of nature’s patterns. Later, “Jungle Jamming – Synthesising Wild Music” transformed the sounds of the forest into a spontaneous symphony, blending creativity with environmental awareness.
The next day, students participated in “Creation – Hands-on Creation of a Micro Habitat” to understand ecological balance, followed by a jeep safari as part of “DARE: Kaleidoscopic World – Explore and Document Three Ecosystems.” Encounters with the barasingha (swamp deer) and exotic birds offered students first-hand experience of India’s rich biodiversity.
That evening, “Earth Summit – What if Animals Were Politicians?” invited students to creatively debate environmental issues from an animal’s point of view — a thought-provoking session that ended with laughter and reflection by the campfire.

Learning from the Tharu Tribe and Forest Traditions
Day 5 introduced students to the Tharu tribal community near the Nepal border. They enjoyed a traditional Tharu meal and engaged in “DARE: HUL – Interact with Tharu Tribal Community to Learn Forest Wisdom,” gaining insights into sustainable living and indigenous knowledge.
The day concluded with “DARE: TERRA X – Legends of Dudhwa,” a storytelling session around a bonfire where myths and folklore brought the jungle’s spirit to life.
Teamwork, Reflection, and Lifelong Lessons
The final day, “DARE: X’pedition – Nature’s Ultimate Survival Challenge,” tested students’ teamwork and problem-solving skills in a simulated survival exercise. A closing ceremony followed, where students shared reflections on their journey — a celebration of learning, resilience, and friendship.
Each participant left Dudhwa with cherished memories and a renewed respect for the natural world.
Principal Emphasises the Power of Experiential Learning
Principal Dr. Jaya Chauhan highlighted the value of such experiences, saying:
“At DPS Ranchi, we firmly believe that education is not confined to textbooks alone. Excursions like the one to Dudhwa National Park serve as living classrooms, where students learn to observe, explore, and appreciate the world around them. Such experiences nurture curiosity, resilience, and environmental sensitivity — qualities essential for shaping compassionate and responsible individuals.”
