New Delhi, Dec 2: The Central Government has agreed to hold a discussion on electoral reforms during the Winter Session of Parliament. A 10-hour debate on the issue has been scheduled for next Tuesday.

During the discussion, political parties may raise several concerns, including the role of the Election Commission, transparency in election expenditure, measures to bar candidates with criminal backgrounds, allegations of EVM hacking, and issues related to the SIR process.

Earlier today, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge demanded an immediate discussion on the SIR process, calling it an urgent matter that requires prompt attention.

Once the Rajya Sabha proceedings began, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the House that the government is ready for a discussion on electoral reforms and that the matter will be taken up in the BAC meeting.

Before this, a discussion on “Vande Mataram” will be held. On Monday, the Lok Sabha will conduct a special discussion on the national song “Vande Mataram,” in which Prime Minister Modi will also participate.
