Guwahati, Dec 12: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg submitted its chargesheet on Friday at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Assam capital Guwahati.

The voluminous document, spanning more than 3,500 pages along with supporting evidence, was transported to the court in four trunks.

The nine-member SIT, led by Special DGP M P Gupta, arrived in a convoy of six vehicles. The investigation has so far resulted in seven arrests, including Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organiser of the North East India Festival (NEIF), and the testimony of over 300 witnesses has been recorded.

Garg, a celebrated singer, died under mysterious circumstances on September 19 while swimming in Singapore during his visit for the fourth edition of NEIF. The Assam government had formed the SIT to examine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has publicly described Garg’s death as “plain and simple murder” during the recent assembly session.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force (SPF), conducting an independent probe, stated that their preliminary investigation has not indicated any foul play, noting that their inquiry may take another three months to conclude.
