Ranchi, Dec 22: The teachers of PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad, the oldest constituent unit of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU), have set a new model of bailing out faculty members starved remote colleges.

They have begun attending regular classes of three newly set up Gomia, Jamadoba and Tundi Model Degree Colleges online so that students do not suffer.

Gomia Model College ( in Bokaro district) is 86 km from the University headquarters, while Jamadoba Model College is around 20 Km away. Tundi Model College is about 45 km away from the university. All three colleges are in a remote area and have been reeling from acute shortages of faculty members in all subjects.

PK Roy Memorial College’s English department has only three teachers: Dr Mantosh Pandey, Dr LM Mahto and Dr D Pathak. But besides attending their own routine classes in the institution, these trio also hold online courses for students of Gomia, Jamadoba and Tundi colleges voluntarily.

“We do not like students to suffer. So, in their interest, we, the English department teachers, have tried to help them,” said Dr Mantosh Pandey, HoD.

However, Dr Pandey credited Vice-Chancellor Dr Pawan Poddar for scheming the concept and providing the online class system.

The HoD said since all trio colleges are far away, we couldn’t go there and attend class daily after taking the same at our institution. “So, online classes are being taken. Also, online classes are not tough for students and teachers as we all became familiar with it during the Covid period,” said Dr Pandey.

A student of a Model College said they feel comfortable online rather than offline as teachers (PK Roy English department) teach us first in English. They repeat that in Hindi and again hold in English, he added.

Former principal of PK Roy Memorial College and university dean, Prof (retired) SKL Das, highly praised the teachers and said, “They have set a new model for other faculty members.”
