Justice Dubas, Justice Ratho win double titles at All India HC Judges badminton championship

 

Ranchi, Jan 4: Justice Farhan Parvez Dubas of the Bombay High Court and Justice Savitri Ratho of the Orissa High Court clinched double titles in the men’s and women’s categories at the All-India High Court Judges Badminton Championship 2024, which concluded today at the Khelgaon Indoor Stadium, Ranchi.

In the men’s singles final, Justice Dubas defeated Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas of the Kerala High Court by 21-11, 21-14 to win the title. Justice Tej Pratap Tiwari of the Allahabad High Court secured the third position after defeating the second semi-final loser 21-15, 21-16.

In the men’s doubles event, Justice Dubas, partnering with Justice Sarang V. Kotwal of the Bombay High Court, defeated the Kerala High Court pair of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas and Justice Raja Vijayraghavan V. in the final by 21-15, 21-19. With this victory, Justice Dubas bagged double crowns in the national-level badminton championship for High Court judges.

Women’s Singles

Justice Savitri Ratho of the Orissa High Court also achieved the rare feat of winning double titles in the championship. In the women’s singles final, she defeated Rekha Borana of the Rajasthan High Court by 21-16, 21-14. Justice Nupur Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court finished third in the women’s singles category.

Mixed Doubles

Justice Ratho completed her double crown by winning the mixed doubles event as well. Partnering with Justice V. Narasingh, she defeated the Rajasthan High Court pair of Justice Ravi Chirania and Rekha Borana in the final by 21-15, 21-16.

At the closing ceremony of the All India High Court Judges Badminton Championship, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan of the Jharkhand High Court was the chief guest and presented trophies to the winners and runners-up. The championship was hosted by the Jharkhand High Court in association with the Jharkhand Badminton Association.

Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri and State Badminton Association Secretary K. Prabhakar Rao were also present on the occasion. Avinash Tiwari officiated as the match referee.
