THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, January 12: A group of around a dozen tourists had a direct eye sighting of a male tiger early Monday morning in one of the eight ranges of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR), officials confirmed.

In the interest of the tiger’s safety, The Jharkhand Story Network has withheld the exact location where the sighting took place.

Tiger Seen Relaxing in Morning Sun

According to sources in the Palamu Tiger Reserve, the tourists spotted the tiger at a distance of barely 20 feet. The animal appeared relaxed and unbothered by human presence as it basked in the early morning sun.

The tourists were accompanied by a lady guide at the time of the sighting.

Forest Officials Confirm Sighting

A range officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the direct sighting of the tiger. The officer urged residents, cattle grazers, and tourists to remain highly alert while moving inside the forest areas of the Palamu Tiger Reserve.

Tourists Advised to Stay Inside Vehicles

Following the sighting, forest officials have reiterated safety guidelines for visitors. Tourists have been strictly advised not to take even short strolls inside the jungle and to remain inside government-authorised vehicles during safaris.

Past Incident Highlights Jungle Risks

Officials also recalled an incident from about a decade ago when a tourist had to flee for safety after being chased by an Indian gaur, popularly known as a bison, which perceived a threat to its calf.

“Dangers in the jungle do not come with warning. They arrive quietly and suddenly. So remain alert at all times,” is the standing advisory of the Palamu Tiger Reserve management.
