Republic Day: Jharkhand CM pays tribute to Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi in London

London/Ranchi, January 26: On the occasion of Republic Day, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid heartfelt tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in London. The visit marked a historic moment, reflecting India’s democratic and constitutional values on an international platform.

Emotional Visit to Dr Ambedkar’s Historic Residence

Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited the historic residence of Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in London, where he paid his respects and described the occasion as extremely emotional, inspiring, and supremely fortunate.

Paying homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution, the Chief Minister said that Dr Ambedkar’s visionary leadership laid a strong foundation for a diverse country like India to emerge as an inclusive, empowered, and democratic nation. He emphasised that Baba Saheb’s ideas of equality, social justice, and empowerment continue to remain the strongest pillars of democracy.

He further said that Dr Ambedkar not only gave the nation a Constitution based on equality and rights, but also ensured that every citizen has the right to live with dignity, self-respect, and honour. His ideals continue to guide the country.

During the visit, the Chief Minister also recorded his thoughts in the guest book maintained at Dr Ambedkar’s residence.

Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square

Earlier, Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by garlanding his statue at Parliament Square in London. On this occasion, he said that Bapu’s ideals of truth, non-violence, and honesty continue to inspire purposeful leadership, service to society, and the path of justice.

He added that Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts and values are not only a guiding light for citizens but also provide constant inspiration in strengthening the foundations of democracy.

BJP Targets CM Over Absence from Jharkhand Celebrations

Meanwhile, the BJP criticised Hemant Soren for not attending the official Republic Day celebrations in Jharkhand, stating that the Chief Minister should have remained present in the state on such an important national occasion. The party alleged that his absence sent the wrong message.

No official response from the Chief Minister’s office regarding the criticism had been issued at the time of filing this report.

Officials and Diaspora Present

During the London events, the Chief Minister was accompanied by his wife, Kalpana Murmu Soren, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, officials of the Ambedkar Museum, scholars from Jharkhand studying in the UK, and members of the Indian diaspora, making the occasion more meaningful and memorable.
