THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, February 1: The Medininagar Forest Division has cleared the felling of three trees that were obstructing access to the Professional Studies Institute of Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) in Daltonganj.

The trees identified for felling are Bakayin, Semul, and Palash.

  • The Semul tree has a girth of 140 cm
  • The Palash tree has a girth of 110 cm
  • The Bakayin tree has a girth of 95 cm

These trees stand directly across the pathway leading to the Professional Studies Institute and have been cited as an obstruction.

Forest Department to Handle Felling and Transit

The Medininagar Forest Division will carry out both the felling and transit of the trees. After felling, the timber will be deposited with the Minor Forest Produce Project Division, Daltonganj, as per forest rules.

As compensation, Nilamber Pitamber University will have to undertake afforestation ten times the number of trees felled, in line with environmental norms.

Forest Officials Brief VC

Acting on the directive of DFO Medininagar Satyam Kumar, senior headquarters official Shankar Srivastav met Vice Chancellor Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh and apprised him of the forest department’s concerns and clearance.

Earlier, Range Officer Kundri Mahender Kumar had submitted an inspection report that also recommended felling the three trees obstructing the passage.

The university had first requested permission for felling the trees in October 2025, ahead of its third convocation. With all formalities now complete, the felling is expected to take place shortly, followed by legal logging and transit.

University Officials Followed Up Matter

Vice Chancellor Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh, Dean Student Welfare Dr S K Pandey, and Registrar Dr Nafis Ahmad had been consistently pursuing the matter with the forest authorities over the past several months.
