Jamshedpur, March 17: The arrest of Adityapur-based builder Ajay Agarwal in an alleged Rs 1.25 crore flat fraud case has triggered concern in Jamshedpur, raising fresh questions over real estate practices in the region.
Sakchi police arrested Agarwal from a hotel in Ranchi on Tuesday following a court-issued warrant. He was later brought to Jamshedpur and interrogated for several hours late into the night.
Fraud Case Filed After Multiple Complaints
According to police sources, a cheating case was registered against the builder on November 26, 2025, after several complainants alleged that he collected large sums of money on the promise of providing flats.
However, he allegedly failed to deliver the promised properties and did not return the funds.
Acting on a tip-off, police traced his location to Ranchi and carried out the arrest.

Sakchi police station witnessed heavy activity late at night, with both supporters of the accused and alleged victims gathering at the premises.
While some individuals reportedly tried to intervene on behalf of the builder, others approached the police with fresh complaints related to similar allegations.
Probe Intensifies, More Cases Likely
Sources said attempts were made from influential quarters to secure relief for the accused soon after his arrest, but no immediate relief was granted as legal procedures continued.
Investigators believe more victims may emerge as the case unfolds. Police are currently examining financial transactions, project documents, and agreements linked to the accused.
Officials also indicated that additional cases could be registered if further evidence comes to light.
