Jamshedpur, June 6: A potential crime was averted in Jamshedpur after police arrested a 19-year-old youth with a loaded country-made pistol and a live cartridge near Belibodhan Ghat under the Bistupur police station area on Saturday morning.

Police said the arrest was made following a tip-off that an armed youth was roaming in the area and allegedly planning to commit a serious offence. Acting on the information, a special raiding team was formed under the direction of senior police officials.

The team reached the spot around 5:30 am and spotted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee after noticing the police. Following a brief chase, the youth was apprehended.

Accused Identified as Adityapur Resident
The accused was identified as Nihal Kumar Gupta (19), a resident of Mahavir Nagar, Adityapur-2, under the RIT police station area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
During the search, police recovered a loaded country-made pistol along with a live cartridge from his possession.
Arms Act Case Registered
During preliminary interrogation, Gupta reportedly admitted that he was carrying the weapon to intimidate and create fear among people.
A case has been registered at Bistupur police station under Sections 25(1-B)(a) and 26 of the Arms Act.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the firearm and examine any possible links to criminal networks.
