Ranchi, June 18: Describing Jharkhand as his “Karmabhoomi” (land of work), newly elected Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani has outlined an ambitious roadmap for rural development, promising to focus on skill development, employment generation, healthcare, education and infrastructure across the state.
Nathwani, who has been elected to the Rajya Sabha for a fourth term, returns to represent Jharkhand after previously serving two consecutive terms from the state between 2008 and 2020. He later represented Andhra Pradesh in the Upper House.
Expressing gratitude after his victory, Nathwani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leaders and NDA legislators for their support.
“Having spent more than a decade here, Jharkhand is not new to me. It is my Karmabhoomi. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve its people once again in the Rajya Sabha,” Nathwani said.
Focus on rural livelihoods and infrastructure
Speaking about his priorities, Nathwani said his focus would be on accelerating development in rural Jharkhand.
He said efforts would be directed towards strengthening skill development programmes and reviving cottage industries to create sustainable livelihood opportunities at the grassroots level. Improving healthcare facilities, educational institutions and rural infrastructure would also remain key areas of intervention.
According to Nathwani, empowering villages and creating employment opportunities closer to home are essential for ensuring balanced and inclusive growth in the state.
Development initiatives during earlier tenure
During his previous terms in the Rajya Sabha, Nathwani undertook several development projects in Jharkhand through MPLAD funds as well as personal contributions.
One of his most notable contributions was supporting the construction of a modern seminar hall with a seating capacity of 600 at IIM Ranchi. He also played a role in strengthening healthcare infrastructure by helping renovate the Ranchi Municipal Corporation Hospital on Ratu Road and supporting the establishment of health centres and ambulance services.
Under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), Nathwani adopted village panchayats including Baram-Jaratoli, Chuttu and Barwadag, where development works focused on roads, drinking water facilities, sanitation, solar power, education and community infrastructure.
He also supported the construction of a model school, a library for tribal students, computer training centres for rural youth and various sports and community facilities.
Strong parliamentary track record
Nathwani has earned a reputation as one of Jharkhand’s most active representatives in Parliament. During his tenure, he raised more than 1,200 questions in the Rajya Sabha, highlighting issues related to rural development, drought management, malnutrition, infrastructure projects, higher education and governance.
His supporters believe his return to Parliament will provide Jharkhand with an experienced and development-oriented voice capable of advancing both public welfare initiatives and investment opportunities.
A return to familiar ground
For Nathwani, the latest victory represents more than a political comeback. It marks a return to a state with which he has maintained a long association over the past two decades.
With a renewed mandate from Jharkhand, Nathwani says his efforts will remain focused on translating development goals into tangible improvements in the lives of people, particularly those living in rural and underserved areas.
