Jamshedpur, June 20: An 80-year-old man was killed after being hit by a speeding bus while on his morning walk in the Ulidih police station area of Mango on Saturday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Sudarshan Sharma, a resident of Sankosai Road No. 4, had stepped out early in the morning for his routine walk when the accident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, an unidentified bus travelling from Dimna towards Mango struck Sharma while he was walking along the roadside. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured.
Succumbs to Injuries at MGM Hospital
Local residents rushed to his aid and took him to MGM Hospital, where doctors provided emergency treatment. However, he later succumbed to severe head injuries and multiple injuries sustained in the collision.
Doctors said the injuries were critical, and efforts to save him proved unsuccessful.
Police Launch Investigation
Following the incident, Ulidih police sent the body for post-mortem examination at MGM Medical College and launched an investigation into the case.
Police are trying to identify the bus and its driver and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the vehicle involved in the accident.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have called for stricter traffic enforcement and improved road safety measures to protect pedestrians and curb reckless driving in the area.
