Jamshedpur, July 6: The investigation into the high-profile DD Bar murder and attempted murder case gathered pace on Monday, with BJP leader and DD Bar owner Niraj Singh set to be brought to Jamshedpur on transit remand from Rajasthan. Meanwhile, a local court deferred hearing on his anticipatory bail plea and directed police to produce the case diary.

Singh was detained on Sunday night in the Khatu Shyamji police station area of Rajasthan’s Sikar district. After completion of legal formalities, he was produced before a court in Sikar, which granted transit remand, enabling a Jamshedpur police team to bring him to the city for questioning.

Investigators believe Singh’s interrogation could provide crucial leads into the alleged conspiracy behind the attack outside DD Bar in Bistupur, the sequence of events leading to the crime and the possible involvement of other accused.

Police sources said all legal formalities have been completed and the transit remand process is underway.

Police intensify search for prime accused

Police have also stepped up efforts to arrest the absconding prime accused, Vishwanath Mandal alias Bodra. Raids are being conducted at multiple suspected hideouts, and investigators claimed to have gathered significant leads that could result in his arrest soon.

Senior police officers, however, declined to disclose operational details, saying it could hamper the ongoing investigation.

In another breakthrough, police on Sunday arrested DD Bar manager Vijay Kumar from Odisha. After completing transit formalities, he was brought to Jamshedpur and is being questioned to ascertain the alleged conspiracy behind the attack, identify the roles of other accused and trace the remaining absconding suspects.

Investigators believe Kumar’s interrogation may help reconstruct the events before and after the attack outside DD Bar that left Himanshu Singh dead and Pratyush Anand critically injured.

Police are focusing on establishing the sequence of events, identifying other conspirators and collecting evidence to strengthen the case.

Court seeks case diary

Meanwhile, Singh’s anticipatory bail petition came up for hearing before the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge-I (ADJ-I), Jamshedpur.

Senior advocate Prakash Jha, appearing for Singh, argued that although reports of his client’s detention in Rajasthan had surfaced, no official document confirming his arrest had been placed before the court. He sought clarification on Singh’s legal status.

After consulting the investigating officers, the Public Prosecutor informed the court that Singh had been detained in Rajasthan but had not yet been formally arrested.

The defence argued that the anticipatory bail plea remained maintainable and requested the court to hear the matter.

The court, however, deferred passing any order and directed the Jamshedpur police to produce the lower court records along with the case diary.

While the prosecution sought eight days to submit the case diary, the defence opposed the request. The court ultimately directed the police to file the case diary within five days and fixed the matter for further hearing.

Police maintained that the investigation is being conducted impartially and scientifically and expressed confidence that the entire conspiracy behind the attack would soon be uncovered.
