Jamshedpur, July 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jharkhand over the next few days, with heavy rainfall likely in parts of the State on July 12.
According to the latest weather bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places across Jharkhand on July 9 and July 11.
Heavy rainfall forecast for central Jharkhand
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Ranchi, Lohardaga and Gumla districts, along with adjoining Latehar district, on July 12.
The weather office has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity, particularly in vulnerable and open areas.
Low-pressure system driving monsoon activity
Meteorologists attributed the prevailing weather conditions to a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 9.6 km above mean sea level and is expected to move north-northwestwards before recurving towards the northeast.
The monsoon trough currently passes through the centre of the low-pressure area and extends across Jharkhand into north Gangetic West Bengal. An upper-air trough extending from the northeast Arabian Sea to Sikkim is also supporting widespread monsoon activity over eastern India.
Southwest monsoon likely to cover entire country soon
The IMD said conditions remain favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of northwest India over the next two to three days, paving the way for complete monsoon coverage across the country.
Residents have been advised to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall.
