Jamshedpur, August 8: Jharkhand is likely to witness another spell of active monsoon weather over the next four days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places across the state.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in several districts, with the focus of the weather activity expected to shift from southern and adjoining central Jharkhand on Saturday to the north-central and north-eastern parts of the state on Sunday.
Heavy Rain Likely in Several Jharkhand Districts
On Saturday (August 8), thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places across Jharkhand.
The IMD has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in southern and adjoining central districts, including Gumla, Lohardaga, Khunti, Ranchi, Ramgarh and Bokaro.
Weather activity is expected to shift towards northern and north-eastern Jharkhand on Sunday (August 9).
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Dhanbad and Bokaro, as well as adjoining districts such as Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara and Giridih.
Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected to continue at isolated places.
Rain and Thunderstorms to Continue Through August 11
The unsettled weather is likely to persist on August 10 and 11, when thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may occur at isolated places across Jharkhand.
The latest forecast indicates that monsoon activity is likely to remain intermittent over the state, with no immediate indication of a prolonged break in rainfall.
Low-Pressure Area Likely Over Bay of Bengal
The forecast comes amid favourable atmospheric conditions over the region. The monsoon trough is passing through Ranchi and extending eastwards towards the Bay of Bengal.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, is persisting and is tilted southwards with height.
Under its influence, the IMD has indicated the possibility of a low-pressure area forming over the coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.
Another upper-air cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and its neighbourhood, located around 1.5 km above mean sea level, is also persisting. The system is expected to contribute to conditions favourable for rainfall and thunderstorms across the state.
IMD Outlook Indicates Continued Monsoon Activity
The IMD’s extended outlook suggests that monsoon activity is likely to remain active over Jharkhand in the coming days.
Residents, particularly those in districts under the heavy-rain and thunderstorm forecast, have been advised to remain alert during periods of lightning, thunderstorms and strong winds.
