Dhanbad, September 12: The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) organised a National Lok Adalat across the state on Saturday, disposing of 24,99,985 cases and settling disputes involving a total amount of ₹9,64,05,39,705.
The cases settled included 23,39,503 pre-litigation matters and 1,60,482 pending cases.
The state-level National Lok Adalat was inaugurated from Annapurna Bhawan at Coal Nagar in Dhanbad by Jharkhand High Court Judge and JHALSA Executive Chairman Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad. The inaugural programme was streamed online across the state, enabling people to connect with National Lok Adalat proceedings held in different districts.
A state-level Legal Services-cum-Empowerment Camp was also organised on the occasion.
Lok Adalat aims to make justice faster and accessible
Addressing the gathering, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad said the objective of the National Lok Adalat was not merely to dispose of cases but also to provide people with speedy, accessible and free justice.
He said resolving disputes through mutual consent and settlement saves both time and money for litigants and also helps maintain social harmony.
He said the programme was aimed at taking the rights guaranteed by the Constitution to every section of society.
JHALSA, he added, works in coordination with the district administration and BCCL to take various initiatives to their logical conclusion.
Justice Prasad stresses education and drug prevention
Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad stressed the need to educate children and urged the district administration to take positive initiatives in this direction.
“Youth are the future of our country. We must prevent them from falling into the trap of drugs,” he said.
He said drug abuse affects not just an individual family but society as a whole, making it necessary to create greater awareness about its harmful consequences.
He also described it as the collective social responsibility of citizens to fulfil their duties towards society and urged people to avoid unnecessary disputes.
Senior officials attend Dhanbad programme
Jharkhand High Court Judge Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava also joined the programme virtually.
BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agrawal, Principal District and Sessions Judge Nikesh Kumar Sinha, Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, along with senior officials from various departments, were present at the inaugural programme in Dhanbad.
A large number of advocates, beneficiaries, para-legal volunteers and officials and employees concerned also attended the event.
The Principal District and Sessions Judges from all districts of Jharkhand joined the programme virtually.
289 benches formed across Jharkhand
JHALSA constituted around 289 benches across the state for the successful conduct of the National Lok Adalat.
A large number of pending and pre-litigation disputes were settled through mutual agreement. Recovery of substantial amounts in various cases was also ensured through the Lok Adalat.
Thousands of beneficiaries were also provided benefits under various government and welfare schemes on the spot.
Preparations made from district to block level
Extensive preparations were made from the district to the block level for the National Lok Adalat. Various departments and legal services institutions worked together to provide people with speedy resolution of their disputes as well as access to government welfare schemes.
According to JHALSA, the National Lok Adalat held on September 12, 2026, disposed of 24,99,985 cases, comprising 23,39,503 pre-litigation matters and 1,60,482 pending cases, with a total settlement amount of ₹9,64,05,39,705.
The state-wide campaign provided relief to a large number of people by offering them a platform for speedy and mutually agreed settlement of disputes.
