Ranchi, September 16: The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Cell of Usha Martin University organised an academic session on “Nakshatras and Vedic Astrology: Ancient Wisdom for Contemporary Understanding” at the university campus on September 16, 2026.
The session was aimed at introducing students and participants to traditional Indian concepts related to Nakshatras and Vedic Astrology while encouraging engagement with India’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Madhulika Kaushik, Pro-Chancellor, Usha Martin University, appreciated the efforts of the IKS Cell to connect traditional Indian knowledge with contemporary academic discussions.
She emphasised the importance of encouraging students to understand India’s diverse knowledge traditions and explore their relevance in the present context.
The session was conducted by Acharya Anil Kumar, an experienced professional with a diverse background in software development, teaching, computer applications and Vedic Astrology.
He is currently engaged in the field of Vedic Astrology and has a keen interest in traditional Indian knowledge and astrological principles.
The session provided students and participants an opportunity to explore traditional Indian perspectives on Nakshatras and Vedic Astrology and learn about various aspects of India’s intellectual and cultural heritage.

Drawing competition-cum-exhibition organised
As part of the programme, the IKS Cell also organised a Drawing Competition-cum-Exhibition on the theme “Wisdom of Bharat: Learning from the Past for the Future.”
The initiative was designed to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their artistic talent and creativity while exploring the heritage of Indian Knowledge Systems.
Students were invited to prepare artworks on any one of three themes:
- Ancient Wisdom of Bharat: Knowledge for Life
- Indian Knowledge for Sustainable Living
- Indian Knowledge through the Epics
The competition encouraged students to connect art, creativity, culture and traditional knowledge, while reflecting on the relevance of India’s knowledge traditions in the context of the future.
The initiative reflects the university’s efforts to provide students with opportunities to engage with India’s traditional knowledge systems through academic discussions, creative expression and experiential learning.
