Jamshedpur, September 28: The monsoon has triggered heightened health concerns across Jharkhand, with fever and infectious diseases such as dengue and malaria emerging as key seasonal risks, according to data released by Star Health and Allied Insurance.
Data for FY 2025-26 shows a four-fold increase in the utilisation of Home Healthcare services for fever and infectious diseases in Jharkhand, indicating a significant rise in demand for medical support during the rainy season.
The trend assumes significance as monsoon conditions can create favourable breeding grounds for mosquitoes and increase the risk of vector-borne and other infections.
Persistent fever, body ache, chills, weakness and other symptoms associated with seasonal infections should not be ignored and may require timely medical assessment, health experts have advised.
Star Health has also reported increased utilisation of its Virtual OPD service, suggesting a growing preference for online consultations as an initial source of medical advice.
The rise in virtual consultations and home-based healthcare also reflects demand for convenient medical support during periods of heightened infection risk.
Himanshu Walia, Whole-time Director and Chief Medical Officer, Star Health Insurance, stressed the importance of seeking medical advice early.
“Timely medical advice can help prevent symptoms from worsening. Persistent fever during the monsoon should not be ignored, and people should seek appropriate medical guidance at the earliest,” Walia said.
Dengue, Malaria Require Early Attention
Monsoon health risks extend beyond mosquito-borne diseases. Contaminated water, poor sanitation and waterlogging can contribute to the spread of several infectious illnesses, making safe drinking water, personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness important preventive measures.
Doctors generally advise medical consultation when fever persists or worsens, particularly if accompanied by severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, dehydration, bleeding or altered consciousness.
Early medical evaluation is particularly important where dengue or malaria is suspected, as timely diagnosis and appropriate monitoring can help reduce the risk of complications.
Home Healthcare and Virtual OPD Services
Star Health said eligible policyholders can access medically prescribed Home Healthcare services, including nursing care, diagnostic tests and health monitoring.
The company said these services can provide continued medical supervision for patients who do not require hospitalisation but need professional care at home.
The insurer also provides support for Home Healthcare and planned hospitalisation through its Talk to Star service. For non-policyholders, free 24/7 Virtual OPD consultations are available through the Star Health Customer app.
