Khunti, Oct 1: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Khunti, in association with the district administration, organised a legal awareness, Aadhaar and medical camp at the Old Age Home in Piparatoli on Thursday to mark the International Day of Older Persons.
The camp focused on informing senior citizens about their legal rights and access to free legal aid, while also providing essential Aadhaar services and medical care under one roof.
The programme was attended by Kamlesh Behra, Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Khunti; Nisha Kujur, District Social Welfare Officer, Khunti; and Dr Lalit Ranjan Pathak, Civil Surgeon, Khunti.
The programme was organised under the direction of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) and the guidance of the Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, Khunti.
Senior citizens briefed on legal rights
During the camp, officials held discussions on the protection of the rights of senior citizens, the NALSA scheme and provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
The residents were also informed about the availability of free legal aid, subject to eligibility, to help them protect their rights and seek legal remedies.
Informational IEC material on the rights and welfare of senior citizens was distributed among the residents.
Aadhaar services provided at old age home
A special Aadhaar camp was organised in coordination with the district administration. New Aadhaar cards were generated for new residents, while corrections and updates were carried out in the existing Aadhaar cards of other residents.
The initiative was aimed at helping elderly residents maintain essential identity documents required to access government services and welfare schemes.
Elderly residents undergo medical check-ups
DLSA Khunti, in association with Sadar Hospital, Khunti, also organised a medical camp at the old age home.
All residents underwent medical examinations and were provided medical advice and medicines based on their medical needs.
Essentials distributed among residents
As part of the programme, towels, socks, fruits and other edible items were distributed among the elderly residents. A cake was also cut as a mark of respect for the senior citizens.
DLSA officials and staff, along with personnel from the district administration, were present during the programme.
