Daltonganj, January 30: Pre-natal sex determination is illegal and banned in India but the mushrooming of the ultrasound clinics is a serious pointer towards it.
Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar told this correspondent, “You can’t know the sex of the unborn in the womb. It’s a crime. No ultrasonographist can dare to violate the act.”
He said, “There is a serious consequence if the PC PNDT act is violated or defied even in a fraction. So, be it’s always good and safe to adhere to this act in toto.”
However, when reminded that there are instances where man or woman shows anxiety to know the sex of the unborn in the womb and this anxiety is more with the couple which has already a couple of girl babies and now pine for a male one, to which Dr Anil Kumar said, “We need to counsel such couple. The couple should be monitored and tracked till the delivery is over. Such a tracking will boost the bond between the couple and the health team.”

Awareness is the key to stop and prevent pre natal sex determination. Dr Anil Kumar said let this awareness that pre- birth sex determination is a serious offence be started at the schools, aagan badi kendras and Sakhi Mandals.
When asked whther school students be asked to write essay on the criminality of the sex determination in pre natal stage, the civil surgeon said, “It will be highly appreciative if students do write about it. Let their guardians read the stuff written by their wards. The guardians should intimate to concerned schools about the worthiness of the write-ups done by their wards.”
Picture competition on the theme of conception and delivery can be promoted also as part of awareness generation, opined the civil surgeon.
On Monday an advisory committee meeting on how to stem any misuse or abuse or illegal determination, was held under the chairmanship of the additional collector Palamu Surjit Kumar co chaired by the civil surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar.
