New Delhi, Feb 1: Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand, filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Thursday, contesting his arrest in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate. On Friday at the Supreme Court, Soren’s appeal will be considered by a three-judge panel led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Senior counsel Kapil Sibal brought up the plea against Soren’s arrest by the Directorate of Enforcement before the Supreme Court.
Sibal informed the court that they were retracting their case from the Jharkhand High Court where it had been brought up late on Wednesday.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta in reference to the plea stated, “Thousands of people are arrested by the Enforcement Directorate; not everyone can come to the Supreme Court.”
Sibal responded to the Solicitor General by saying, “Everyone will be arrested before elections.”
Following nearly seven hours of interrogation on money laundering charges related to an alleged land fraud case, Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday.
The ED acted after Soren did not answer the agency’s queries satisfactorily.
Champai Soren, the Jharkhand Transport Minister and JMM leader, was appointed as Soren’s successor and new CM after he resigned.
