New Delhi, Feb 1: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her sixth Budget presentation on Thursday preceding the Lok Sabha polls, asserted that the Indian economy has undergone a significant positive transformation over the past decade.

“The next five years will be the years of unprecedented development. Trinity of democracy, demography and diversity can help fulfil the aspirations of every Indian. The Indian economy has witnessed a profound positive transformation in the last 10 years, The people of India are looking ahead to the future with hope and optimism,” she stated.

Democracy, demography and diversity

Asserting that the BJP-led government at the Centre has pursued development through an “all-round, all-inclusive and all-pervasive” (‘sarvangin’,’sarvasparshi’, and ‘sarvasamaveshi’) approach, she said that the trinity of “Democracy, Demography and Diversity” can help realize the goals of every Indian.

Four key pillars

Sitharaman stated that the goal of her government’s development strategy is to build India a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed Bharat) by 2047, encompassing all castes and people at all levels.

The Finance Minister stated “As our Prime Minister firmly believes, we need to focus on four major castes, they are gareeb (poor), mahilayein (women), yuva (youth) and annadata (farmers). Their needs, their aspirations and their welfare are our highest priority,” and the Interim Budget is centred around these four key pillars.

Optimism in BJP’s third consecutive term

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed optimism that the effective policies and initiatives implemented by the Central government will contribute to the BJP securing a third consecutive term in power.

“Our young country has high aspirations, pride in its present and hope and confidence for a bright future. We expect that our government based on its stupendous work will be blessed again by the people with a resounding mandate,” she stated.

President Droupadi Murmu addressed the joint Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha session on Wednesday to kick off the Budget Session of Parliament.
