Dhanbad, February 13: Senior residents of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad are peeved over their nominal representation in the Jharkhand Junior Doctors Network (JDN) constituted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) state chapter.

In the 13-member state JDN committee, only one post of vice-president (Dr Ananya Ghosh) has been given to SNMMCH Dhanbad. At the same time, two newly set up medical colleges, SBMCH Hazaribagh (joint secretary Dr Surendra Sahu and convener Dr Prabhakar Narayan) and PJMCH Dumka ( vice-president Dr Quazi Md Ismai and convener Dr Amit Ranjan ) have been given two posts.

JDN to deal with doctors’ issue

On the directive of the IMA national body, the Jharkhand chapter of IMA constituted the Junior Doctors Network on January 31. The JDN will now deal with medical college doctors/students-related problems in the state under the guidance of the IMA.

More representation of new medical colleges

“We have no objection in giving the president (Dr Vikash Kumar) post to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science Ranchi and the secretary ( Dr Raghvendra Kumar) post to MGMCH Jamshedpur as both the institutions are older than Dhanbad. But SNMMCH comes after them, and it should have been given due representation,” said a senior resident requesting anonymity.

However, MGMMCH Jamshedpur and MMCH Palamu (Dr Ajay Kumar, joint secretary) have also been given one post each in the Association.

RIMS gets 6 nominees

RIMS Ranchi has been given the highest representation of six posts ( besides president, Dr Jaideep Kumar Choudhary, Ranvijay Kumar- vice-president, Dr Sujit Murmu, joint secretary, Dr Vineeta Gupta- treasurer) in the Association.

When contacted, IMA state president Dr AK Singh admitted that SNMMCH Dhanbad had been given feeble representation in the committee. “I feel SNMMCH Dhanbad should have been given more representation. After talking with the secretary (Dr Pradip Kumar Singh), we will accommodate more doctors from SNMMCH,” said Dr AK Singh.

A senior resident of SNMMCH said that this is not the first time the Jharkhand IMA, as well as the district chapter, ignored the issue of SNMMCH senior residents. “They never considered us their part,” he added.

“In November 2022, 46 senior residents of SNMMCH had to go on strike for four months due to honorarium payment. We were on pen down strike for over a week, but the IMA never took cognisance of our agitation,” said the senior resident.
