Madurai, Feb 15: An OBC leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party was reportedly murdered by unidentified individuals in broad daylight near the Vandiyur toll gate in Madurai district, Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
Sakthivel, 35, a resident of Thevar Kurinji Nagar in Madurai, was recognized by the police as the deceased. He held the position of OBC Morcha secretary for the Madurai BJP.
The savage attack took place at approximately 6 AM, shortly after Sakthivel left his residence in Vallanathapuram. Eyewitnesses said that he was ambushed by a group of attackers who chased him and severely battered him.

A Madurai City police official stated, “The BJP functionary was found dead near the Vandiyur toll gate with cut injuries. The police initially started an inquiry into the accidental angle but later found a cut in the body”.
Passersby stumbled upon the horrifying scene and promptly informed the Anna Nagar Police.
The authorities identified the victim and recovered his body, arranging for it to undergo an autopsy at Rajaji Government Hospital.
An investigation into the murder has been started by the police. Based on preliminary findings, it appears that Sakthivel’s recent dispute over the sale of a goods carrier vehicle may have played a role in the motive.
Authorities are examining CCTV footage to ascertain the identities of the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing.
