Kolkata, Dec 30: Political parties in West Bengal, particularly the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), have intensified preparations ahead of the Assembly elections. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been attacking the BJP and the Election Commission over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
According to the draft published by the Election Commission, nearly 58 lakh names have been removed from the voter list, a development that has caused concern for Mamata Banerjee. Meanwhile, the BJP has been aggressively raising issues related to violence against Hindus in Bangladesh and illegal infiltration.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Kolkata on Tuesday, where he addressed a press conference. He said that if a BJP government is formed in West Bengal, infiltrators would be identified and deported, and the state would be put firmly on the path of development. He also promised efforts to revive Bengal’s rich cultural heritage.

Launching a sharp attack on the TMC government, Shah said that over the past 15 years, West Bengal has suffered from fear, corruption and infiltration. He asserted that illegal immigration in the state is not just a regional issue but one that affects the national security of the entire country.
The Home Minister said that to protect India’s culture and security, there is a need for a government in the state that will seal Bengal’s borders. He claimed that this task cannot be accomplished by the TMC and can only be done by the BJP.
Shah further said that after April 15, 2026, when a BJP government is formed in West Bengal, the party would initiate the revival of “Banga Gaurav” and Bengali culture. He said efforts would be made to build the Bengal envisioned by Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

Amit Shah said that during the TMC’s 15-year rule, the people of Bengal have lived in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. He assured that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, a BJP government in the state would restore Bengal’s heritage, accelerate development and focus on the welfare of the poor.
The Home Minister also said that December 30 is a day of pride for Indians, recalling that on this day in 1943, legendary freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the flag of independent India for the first time in Port Blair.
