Ranchi, June 9: Narendra Damodar Das Modi was sworn in today as the prime minister for the third consecutive term. With this feat, Modi has equalled a record set by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962.

Besides Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Annapurna Devi from Jharkhand were among the 30 cabinet ministers who took oath today. Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth was among 36 Ministers of State and five ministers of state with independent charge who were sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Annapurna was MoS in Modi 2.0

Annapurna Devi, who was minister of state for HRD in the Modi 2.0 cabinet has been promoted to the cabinet rank. 54-year-old Annapurna has retained the Koderma’s seat by a huge margin for the second consecutive term.

She began her political career with the RJD and was elected a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Koderma constituency in 1998 and continued there till 2014. She fought the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on the BJP ticket and was elected as a Member of Parliament, marking her entry into national politics.

Sanjay Seth emerges dark horse

Meanwhile, Sanjay Seth, who won the Ranchi parliamentary seat for the second term has emerged as a dark horse as none of the BJP tribal leaders could win the Lok Sabha elections this time. Ideally, a tribal leader would have found a berth in the Modi cabinet given the demographic profile of Jharkhand where the tribals constitute a sizeable population and Assembly elections are due in November-December.

The AJSU party, BJP’s ally, felt disappointed after its sole MP Chandra Prakash Chaudhary (Giridih) failed to get a berth.

Sanjay Seth, born on August 25, 1959, started his political journey in 2005 when he became a member of the Local Board of the State Bank of India, Patna, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

In 2016, he was appointed Chairperson of the Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries Board. In 2019, he was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Ranchi constituency.

Seth has a keen interest in organising socio-cultural and political events and seminars on economic issues. He is also the chairperson of Hasy Mai Jayate (Kavi Sammelane) and a chief patron of Sri Krishnan Janmotsav Samiti (Dahi Handi Pratiyogita) and Makar Sankranti Utsav (Patang Utsav).
