Jamshedpur, August 24: Jharkhand is set for another spell of unsettled weather as a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas continues to influence the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at isolated places across different parts of the state through August 27.
The weather system, which persisted over the northwest Bay of Bengal on Sunday, is supported by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.
The monsoon trough is also positioned across northern and central parts of the country and extends towards the low-pressure area, creating favourable conditions for continued rainfall over Jharkhand.
The IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places during the period. Intermittent spells of rain are likely across several districts as the weather system remains active.
On August 24, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar in north-western Jharkhand, as well as Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum in the south-western part of the state.
Lohardaga and Khunti may also receive heavy showers, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds expected at isolated places.
Heavy Rain to Focus on Southern Jharkhand
The rain belt is likely to remain concentrated over southern and south-western Jharkhand on August 25.
Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum, along with adjoining Khunti, are likely to witness heavy rain at isolated places. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds will continue to pose a weather risk in parts of the state.
Similar conditions are expected on August 26, with Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum again likely to record heavy showers, along with adjoining Lohardaga and Khunti.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also forecast at isolated places.
Rain to Shift Towards Central, Northern Districts
By August 27, the zone of heavy rain is expected to shift towards central and northern parts of Jharkhand.
Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Ranchi are likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places, while adjoining Chatra and Giridih may also experience intense showers.
With the low-pressure area maintaining its influence over the Bay of Bengal and the monsoon trough remaining favourably positioned, Jharkhand is likely to witness intermittent rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.
The fresh spell comes after a brief lull in widespread monsoon activity, bringing relief from heat and humidity while also increasing the possibility of waterlogging and slippery road conditions in vulnerable areas.
