Khunti, Jan 8: Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda on Thursday demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the killing of tribal leader and Padha Raja Soma Munda, saying the incident highlights serious law-and-order concerns in Jharkhand.
Arjun Munda visited Chalangi village in Khunti district, met the bereaved family and paid his respects to Soma Munda, who was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday.
Calling the murder extremely tragic and condemnable, the former Chief Minister said the state administration must act swiftly and with sensitivity to ensure such incidents do not recur.

“The culprits must be arrested at the earliest. Law and order need to be strengthened, and the administration has to be more sensitive,” Arjun Munda said.
Tribal leader shot dead on Wednesday
Padha Raja Soma Munda was killed near Jamuadag under the Khunti police station area while returning to his village Chalangi on a motorcycle with his wife. Two unidentified assailants on another motorcycle allegedly overtook them and fired multiple shots, killing him on the spot.
According to police, the attackers fled towards Mandarutoli after the shooting.
Police probe underway
DSP Varun Rajak said Soma Munda’s wife informed the Khunti police station soon after the incident. Police rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
“A special investigation team has been formed, and raids are being conducted to nab the culprits,” the DSP said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
Outrage in the tribal community
Soma Munda was a respected tribal leader, educationist, convener of the Tribal Coordination Committee in Khunti, and an active leader of the Jharkhand Party. His killing has sparked widespread anger among tribal organisations.
Terming the incident a social and political assassination, the Tribal Coordination Committee observed a Khunti bandh on Thursday, demanding immediate arrests and enhanced security.
Police have appealed to the public to maintain peace.
