Guwahati, Feb 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that over the past decade, numerous peace agreements have been signed, and long-standing border issues have been resolved. He emphasized that every citizen and youth in Assam is working tirelessly for the state’s development.
Prime Minister Modi made these remarks during his speech at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati today.
Assam’s economy doubled in last 6 years
He also emphasized Assam’s rapid economic progress, noting that the state’s economy has doubled in the past six years under the BJP government. He also highlighted the historical significance of Eastern India and the Northeast, asserting that the region is poised to demonstrate its strength as India advances towards greater development.
“Assam’s contribution is growing larger. In 2018, the first edition of Advantage Assam was launched. Back then, Assam’s economy was approximately Rs 2.75 lakh crore, now it stands at Rs six lakh crore. This means that under the BJP government, Assam’s economy has doubled in six years. This shows the double effect of a double-engine government,” PM Modi stated.

Continuous efforts to improve ease of doing Business
The Prime Minister stated that the government has consistently worked to improve the ease of doing business and has created a comprehensive ecosystem to promote industry and a culture of innovation.
He added that the government is also making significant investments in the country’s infrastructure. According to him, the combination of institutional reforms, industry, infrastructure, and innovation forms the foundation of India’s progress.
Assam has set a target to grow its economy to 150 billion by 2030, and the Prime Minister expressed confidence that Assam would surely achieve this goal. He attributed his confidence to Assam’s capable and talented people, as well as the commitment of the BJP government in the state.
Assam’s railway budget quadrupled to ₹10,000 crore
He said that in the last few years, the BJP government has made significant progress in infrastructure related to air connectivity. The Prime Minister mentioned that before 2014, there were only three bridges over the Brahmaputra River, but in the past 10 years, four new bridges have been built, one of which is named after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika Ji.
The PM added that between 2009 and 2014, Assam received an average of ₹2,100 crore in the railway budget. However, under their government, Assam’s railway budget has been increased more than fourfold to ₹10,000 crore.
