Jamshedpur, Dec 14: In a breakthrough, the police have solved a shocking case in which an autorickshaw driver and his associate robbed a passenger at dagger point in Bistupur late on the night of December 10.
The police arrested the autorickshaw driver, identified as Sheikh Sultan (34), and his associate, Sarfaraz Ansari (31). They also recovered Rs 500 looted from the victim and seized the autorickshaw used in the crime.
While addressing a press briefing today, City SP Kumar Shivashish said that around midnight on December 10, a man named Nandlal boarded an autorickshaw near Tatanagar railway station to go home to the Dimna Chowk area.

“There were five people in the autorickshaw, including the driver. Two passengers got down near the Gopal Maidan roundabout. As the vehicle moved towards Mango, it stopped near Motilal Nehru Public School under the Bistupur police station area. Suddenly, the driver took out a dagger while his associate started assaulting the passenger. After attacking him and threatening to kill him at dagger point, they snatched his mobile phone and wallet containing Rs 500 and fled from the spot,” the City SP told reporters.
Shivashish said the victim later reached the Bistupur police station and lodged an FIR regarding the incident.
“As this was a serious crime involving the robbery of a passenger by an autorickshaw driver, the police acted immediately. The team collected CCTV footage from the area and took technical assistance along with inputs from human intelligence. Eventually, the police were able to track down and arrest the two accused,” the senior officer said.
He further revealed that both the accused are residents of Kapali under the Chandil police station area near Jamshedpur.
