Ranchi, April 11: At a one-day workshop held under the Ambedkar Samman Abhiyan in Ranchi, BJP State President and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of suppressing Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s vision and systematically excluding Dalits from the mainstream.

“The Congress party repeatedly trampled on the dreams and ideas of Baba Saheb Ambedkar,” Marandi said. “They feared that glorifying him would expose their anti-national and anti-Dalit mindset.”
Held at the BJP’s state office, the event saw participation from MPs, MLAs, district officials, and members of the Scheduled Caste Front. A presentation compared the Congress’s alleged mistreatment of Ambedkar with the BJP’s initiatives to honour him—highlighting moves such as awarding the Bharat Ratna, installing his portrait in Parliament, and developing five pilgrimage sites linked to his life.

Executive President Dr Ravindra Kumar Rai labelled the Congress “a vehicle of international conspiracy” dating back to before Independence. Former Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri echoed the sentiment, saying, “The Congress not only insulted Baba Saheb during his lifetime but also denied him dignity after his death. They didn’t even allocate land for his memorial in Delhi.”
Bauri further alleged that Congress leaders took Bharat Ratna awards for themselves while sidelining Ambedkar and tried to erase his resignation letter to conceal his criticism of their policies.
BJP’s State Organisation General Secretary Karmveer Singh framed the Ambedkar Samman Abhiyan as an ideological movement aimed at reaching grassroots communities. He outlined the campaign schedule, which runs from 13 to 25 April, starting with the cleaning of Ambedkar statues across districts, followed by lamp-lighting ceremonies and community meals on Ambedkar Jayanti.
“This is about exposing the truth,” Singh said. “People need to see who truly honoured Baba Saheb and who merely used his name for politics.”
