Ranchi, August 13: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi on Thursday visited the family of a tribal rape victim in Sakaldipa village under the Panki Assembly constituency and sought detailed information about the alleged rape of a young girl and the subsequent abduction of her two sisters.

Marandi later addressed a public gathering at Phulwariya Bazar Tand, organised to protest alleged atrocities against tribal women and children. He called for strict action against those accused and urged the administration to ensure the safety of the affected family.

Marandi said that the situation subsequently escalated, with two sisters of the victim allegedly being forcibly taken to Ranchi and other places, where they were reportedly kept for several months.

“Just think, where is the rule of law? What kind of terror prevails here?” Marandi said while highlighting the family’s allegations.

BJP leader seeks protection for tribal family

Marandi said the family continues to live under fear and insecurity even after the alleged incidents. He said the family has sought intervention from the district Superintendent of Police to ensure their safety and demanded strict action against those responsible.

He also called for an impartial investigation into the allegations and urged the administration to take effective steps to protect the family.

Marandi objects to alleged pressure over dress and lifestyle

Marandi further alleged that the family had faced pressure over wearing the burqa and hijab. He said tribal communities have their own distinct culture, traditions, lifestyle and dietary practices, and argued that no one should be subjected to pressure regarding such matters.

He warned those allegedly involved in the incidents to desist from such actions and appealed to the administration and members of the Muslim community to socially isolate criminals and those involved in atrocities.

“One should regard the mothers and sisters of other households as one’s own mothers and sisters. Those who support such elements eventually have to bear the consequences,” he said.

Party leaders join protest meeting

Several BJP leaders and workers were present during Marandi’s visit and the public meeting, including Chatra MP Kalicharan Singh, Panki MLA Shashi Bhushan Mehta, State General Secretary Manoj Singh and District President Amit Tiwari.

The allegations regarding the rape, abduction and threats were made by the victim’s family and reiterated by Marandi; the matter remains subject to investigation by the authorities.
