Thane, August 26: The Kalyan Court on Monday remanded the accused in the Badlapur sexual abuse case to 14 days in judicial custody.
The accused Akshay Shinde had been held in police custody prior to the court’s decision.
The accused Akshay Shinde was arrested on August 17 and sent to police custody. He sexually abused two nursery girls aged 4 and 6 on August 12-13.

On August 23, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Badlapur sexual assault case involving minors filed an FIR against the school authorities for failing to adhere to Section 19 of the POCSO Act. This section requires all authorities who learn of sexual assaults against minors to report the incident to the police for appropriate legal proceedings.
In response to widespread public outrage and protests in Badlapur on August 19, the Maharashtra government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the serious crime. Additionally, the government has suspended the Adarsh Vidya Prasarak Sanstha (AVPS) school’s board of trustees and appointed an Administrator to oversee the institution’s operations in the interim.

The government has also launched several measures to enhance the safety of school children, including mandatory CCTV installation, assigning only women support staff to restrooms and changing rooms, and conducting comprehensive background checks on all staff members in various positions among others.
