Dhanbad, Dec 20: Dr Sharmistha Acharya of Sindri College Sindri and Dr Avinash Kumar of RS More College Govindpur were elected vice-presidents with the highest number of votes along with other three candidates in the Binod Bihari Mahto Teachers Association election held today.
The election was conducted only for five vice-president’s posts as six candidates had been in the race.
The election was held at the University PG department. Out of 173 votes, 147 teachers cast their votes. Two votes were declared invalid.
Dr Sarmistha Acharya and Dr Avinash Kumar got equal 90-90 votes while Dr Kiroom Rashmi Topno of PK Roy Memorial College (85), Dr Anamika Kujur of RSP College Jharia (84), Dr Ram Pravesh Kumar of Chas college (76) were declared elected.
The 6th candidate in the race, Dr Manohar Majhi of KB College Bermo got 74 votes.

The victory of Dr Acharyya keeps significance as she was the lone 2008 batch candidate in the race. All other 5 candidates belonged to the 2018 batch.
After the nomination on December 4, president candidate Dr DK Singh Post graduate department, general secretary candidate Dr Amulya Suman Beck post graduate department , five secretaries – Dr Ashutosh Rahul Tirkey of PK Roy Memorial College, Dr Veenita Soreng of SSLNT Women’s College, Dr Priyanjana Hansda of BSK College Maithon, Dr Alisha Vandna Lakra of KB College Bermo, and Dr David Murmu Chas College had been elected uncontested.
Dr Ajit Narayan Das was also elected unopposed as the new treasurer of BBMKUTA.
Among prominent voters, Registrar Dr Kaushal Kumar, Finance Officer Dr Shiv Prasad, DSW Dr Pushpa Kumari and 12 constituent colleges principals out of 13 Dr Kavita Singh, Dr GN Singh, Dr KK Pathak, Dr RP Singh, Dr Sarita Srivastava, Dr Indrajit Singh, Dr DK Singh, Dr Dipak Kuwar and others cast their votes.
BBMKU vice-chancellor Dr Pawan Poddar administered oath to the elected office bearers of the Teachers Association. On the occasion, DSW Dr Pushpa Kumari and chief election officer Prof (retired) Dr SKL Das were also present.
