Khagaria, April 10: In Bihar’s Khagaria district, Kaushal Singh, the nephew of Janata Dal (United) MLA Pannalal Singh Patel, was shot dead by unidentified assailants late Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the Kaithi area under Chautham police station limits while Singh was returning home from his warehouse with his wife.

According to police reports, the attackers ambushed Singh, firing multiple shots at him, with at least one bullet striking his head. Though his family rushed him to a private hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar said preliminary investigations point toward a possible family dispute behind the murder.

“Initial reports suggest a family rivalry may be involved,” SP Kumar said, adding that police have received names of suspects and raids are underway. He noted that witnesses described the shooters as unidentified individuals who opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Family members alleged that Kaushal Singh had ongoing tensions with his brother, Bijal Singh, and expressed suspicion that Bijal’s son might be behind the attack. However, police said details remained unclear and further facts would be established after the post-mortem examination.

A formal complaint has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing, authorities confirmed.
