SUBHASH MISHRA
Dhanbad, Oct 19: Students of BIT Sindri, under their social initiative LiGHT Sindri, celebrated Diwali in a heartwarming way by organising “Sparsh” — a special celebration with the residents of Ramashram Old Age Home in Dhanbad.
A Festival of Love and Compassion
As part of the celebration, students distributed blankets, fruits, and sweets to the elderly residents. The gesture, they said, symbolised love, empathy, and gratitude rather than mere gifts.
“We aimed to bring smiles to their faces and remind them that they are not forgotten. They remain an integral and respected part of our society,” said coordinators Amit Gupta and Sonal Kumari.

The event was filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt interactions as volunteers spent quality time listening to the life stories of the residents and sharing in their joy.
Continuing a Tradition of Kindness
According to the organisers, LiGHT Sindri has made it a tradition to celebrate Diwali with those in need, embodying the true spirit of the festival — spreading happiness and humanity.
“Such initiatives are the essence of LiGHT. We believe that even small acts of kindness can create a ripple of positive change in society,” added the coordinators.

Members Shashi Kumar, Yashwant Mahli, and Rishika Gupta were among the active participants in the event.
Lighting Up Lives Beyond Lamps
LiGHT Sindri has consistently marked Diwali with social outreach. Last year, its members celebrated with children from the Hindu Mission Orphan Centre, distributing sweets and clothes to bring smiles to their faces.
This year’s Sparsh event once again reminded everyone that the true essence of Diwali lies not in the burst of crackers or the glow of lamps, but in the light we bring into others’ lives.
