BIT Sindri: Experts shed light on AI importance in construction

Experts in Diamond Jubilee lecture at BIT Sindri

Dhanbad, Dec 9: Moti Lal Vats, Director AI/ML platform engineering team for Vanguard USA, today said that artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a potential tool to transform civil engineering and industry.

Vats, who was addressing the BIT Sindri Diamond Jubilee Lecture Series organized by the Civil Engineering Department of the institution, said civil engineering has seen remarkable change with the innovation of technology. In it, AI has an important role, he added.

“Generative AI is not only transforming civil engineering but also various industries and financial services,” said Moti Lal Vats.  He also shed light on AI implementation in civil engineering, structural design, construction planning, building materials and construction methods.

“Develop a basic understanding of AI, explore online resources and acquire relevant skills,” he suggested the engineering students and faculty members.

The chief guest of the function, Dr Suresh Kumar, assistant professor, IIT BHU, shed light on the subject of ‘Behaviour of  Soft Soil Reinforced with Stone’  and explained the technical problems that appear in construction on soft soil. Dr Kumar also suggested a solution to this problem.

Deputy General Manager of  IOCL Sunil Kumar Agrawal shared his experience of hurdles he faced in construction work.

Earlier,  Dr Vikrama Pandey, Dr Uday Kumar Singh and Dr  Prafull  Kumar Sharma of the civil engineering department welcomed the guests and shed light on BIT Sindri Diamond Jubilee as well as  the subject of the lecture series.

HoD civil engineering department Dr  Jitu Kujur while presiding over the function introduced guest speakers and their contribution in the civil engineering field.

HoD Dr  Kujur felicitated Dr Suresh Kumar by presenting a memento. Dr Brahmdeo Yadav, the associate professor presented a memento to Moti Lal Vats while Dr Maya Rajnarayan Rai presented a memento to Sunil Kumar Agrawal.  BIT Director Dr Pankaj Rai also graced the function.

Dr. Sumit Kumar, Dr Komal Kumari, Dr Abhijit Anand, Dr  Prakash Kumar Oraon, Dr Iqbal Sheikh, Dr Saroj Meena,  Dr Prasant Ranjan Malyia played sheet anchor’s role in making the function successful
