Ranchi, March 19: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation has a new Deputy Mayor, with BJP-backed candidate Neeraj Kumar, councillor of Ward 31, winning the post by a margin of 38 votes. The election was held on Thursday at the DC’s office and saw a direct contest between Neeraj Kumar and Paramjit Singh, the councillor of Ward 44.

A total of 53 ward councillors participated in the voting process. After counting, Neeraj Kumar was declared the winner, securing his position as Deputy Mayor in the newly formed municipal administration.

The election was significant, as it took place after a three-year gap during which the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and all 53 ward councillors remained vacant. With the results now declared, Ranchi has a new civic body in place.

The BJP has strengthened its presence in the Municipal Corporation, with both Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar and Mayor Roshni Khalkho being backed by the party. Their victory is seen as an important development in the city’s political landscape.

Following the announcement of results, celebrations erupted among supporters. The DC office premises remained active throughout the day, reflecting the high political interest in the election.

With the new administration in place, Mayor Roshni Khalkho and Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar are expected to lead the Ranchi Municipal Corporation in the coming term.
