New Delhi, April 22: After all other candidates withdrew from the race, Mukesh Dalal, the candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was elected unopposed from Gujarat’s Surat Lok Sabha constituency.

This follows the cancellation of nominations for two Congress candidates on Sunday, along with the withdrawal of candidature by eight other candidates on Monday.

Today, Saurabh Pardhi, the Surat District Collector and Election Officer, gave Mukesh Dalal his Member of Parliament (MP) certificate.

CR Paatil, the Gujarat BJP chief, verified the occurrence by congratulating Dalal on X.

“Surat has offered the first lotus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congratulations to Surat Lok Sabha candidate Mukeshbhai Dalal for being elected unopposed,” CR Paatil posted on X.

Gujarat CM extends greetings

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also extended congratulations to Dalal in a post on X.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel hailed Dalal’s uncontested victory as the beginning of a monumental triumph for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Patel expressed confidence in the BJP’s anticipated landslide victory across all 26 seats in Gujarat and underscored the symbolic significance of the lotus blooming, the party’s electoral symbol, as a harbinger of its success in the upcoming polls.

Discrepancies in proposers’ signatures of Congress candidate

Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani’s candidacy for the Surat Lok Sabha seat was turned down on Sunday after the district returning officer initially discovered inconsistencies in the proposers’ signatures, which led to the decision.

Suresh Padsala, the alternative candidate from the Congress for Surat, also had his nomination form rejected on Sunday. Consequently, the primary opposition party in Gujarat was unable to partake in the city’s Lok Sabha election.
