Ranchi, Dec. 30: The Supreme Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, the senior-most Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, to the Rajasthan High Court.

Justice Chandrashekhar was appointed acting chief justice after Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra retired on December 28.

Supreme Court resolution

According to a resolution of the Supreme Court, Justice Chandrashekhar requested his transfer from the Jharkhand High Court on December 29, a day after Justice B R Sarangi was recommended to be the chief justice in Jharkhand.

Though the Supreme Court resolution does not mention the reason behind Justice Chandrashekhar’s request, it is understood that he took the step after a judge, who was junior to him, was appointed chief justice in Jharkhand.

Justice Chandrashekhar was appointed as a judge of the Jharkhand on January 17, 2013, while Justice Sarangi was elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Orissa on June 20 2013.

One of the factors the Supreme Court collegium considered to elevate Justice Sarangi as the chief justice was that there needed to be representation of the High Court of Orissa among the Chief Justices of the High Courts after the retirement of Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra.

Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, who has been recommended to be chief justice of the Rajasthan High Court, was elevated as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on December 10 2009.

Justice Chandrashekar

Born on May 25, 1965, Justice Chandrashekar completed his LL.B. course from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in 1993 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council on 09.12.1993. He started his practice in Delhi on both the Criminal and Civil sides.

He was standing Counsel for the All-India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court.

He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, on 17.01.2013 and permanent Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, on 27.06.2014.
