THE JHARKHAND HIGH COURT
Ranchi, Sept 25: Justice MS Ramachandra Rao today took oath as the new Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
Governor Santosh Gangwar administered him oath of office at the Raj Bhawan. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad were present along with other judges and top bureaucrats of the State.
Notably, the Central Government issued a notification transferring Justice Rao from the Himachal Pradesh High Court to Jharkhand on September 21.
Know Justice MS Ramachandra Rao
Born on 07.08.1966 in Hyderabad, Justice Rao studied B.Sc.(Hons.)(Mathematics) from Bhavans New Science College, Osmania University. He passed LL.B. from the University College of Law, Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1989. He was awarded the CVSS Acharyulu Gold Medal by the Osmania University for securing the highest marks in the final year LL.B.
He enrolled as an Advocate on 07.09.1989.
He secured LL.M. from the University of Cambridge U.K. in 1991.
Justice Rao’s father was ex-SC judge
His father Justice M. Jagannadha Rao was a former Judge of The Supreme Court of India (1997-2000) and former Chairman of Law Commission of India. His grandfather M.S. Ramachandra Rao was also a Judge of The High Court of Andhra Pradesh from 1960-1961.
Appointed as a judge on December 4, 2013
Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was elevated as Addl. Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on 29.06.2012. He was appointed as Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and assumed charge as such on 04.12.2013. he was appointed to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice, High Court for the State of Telangana w.e.f. 31.08.2021 forenoon.
He was transferred as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court and assumed charge of the office on 12.10.2021 and remained as such upto 29.05.2023.
Elevated as CJ on May 30, 2023
Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao was administered the oath of office of the Chief Justice of High Court of Himachal Pradesh on 30th May, 2023, on his elevation from the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
