Ranchi, Jan 31: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Ranchi, arrested an Army Havildar and his relative for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The arrested Havildar has been identified as Mukesh Kumar Rai, while the private individual is his relative, Dinesh Kumar Rai.

According to the CBI, the Havildar had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to allow construction work on land claimed to be Army property. The money was allegedly sought to complete the casting work of Sudarshan Apartment.

Complaint filed with CBI

The complaint was lodged by Shivam alias Bishu, a resident of Singh More. He alleged that Havildar Mukesh Kumar Rai, posted at Defence Land NOC, R&O, FLT Unit 56 APO at Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, was demanding illegal gratification to permit construction work.

During the inquiry, the Havildar agreed to accept the bribe in instalments of Rs 50,000 each. Acting on this information, the CBI laid a trap and arrested Mukesh Kumar Rai and his relative Dinesh Kumar Rai on January 31 while accepting the bribe amount.

The CBI has informed the Army Headquarters in Ranchi about the arrest of the Havildar. Further investigation in the case is underway.

CBI appeal to public

The CBI has appealed to the public not to offer bribes. Complaints regarding demands for bribes by central government employees can be made to the CBI at phone numbers 0651-2360093 or 9470590422.
