Jaunpur, May 20: A routine postal inspection in Uttar Pradesh has led to a bribery scandal, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arresting a Sub Divisional Inspector (SDI) of India Post and a Mail Motor Service driver for allegedly extorting ₹25,000 from a Branch Post Master in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur.

According to a statement issued by the CBI on Tuesday, the SDI, posted in Madiyahu, had inspected the Seur Branch Post Office on May 15 and flagged a cash shortage.

The complainant—Branch Post Master—submitted a written clarification on May 17. Despite this, the SDI allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for settling the matter and preventing the complainant’s suspension.
Acting on a complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the driver red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of the SDI. Both individuals were arrested and produced before a CBI court. The case was formally registered on Monday, and investigations are ongoing.
