CEC Rajiv Kumar says over 64 crore voters created world record by casting votes in peaceful polls

New Delhi, June 3: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, in a press conference today, declared the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as historic, stating that women actively participated in them. More than 64 crore voters exercised their voting rights, with over 31 crore female voters participating. The CEC expressed gratitude to all voters and assured that the entire counting process is robust.

The Election Commission held a press conference a day before the results of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and gave information about the seven-phase election process.

Also, the Election Commission gave a standing ovation to all the voters who participated in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

The Chief Election Commissioner stated that memes about the return of the missing gentleman on social media might appear, but they want to clarify that they were never missing.

Notice issued to top leaders to make election process fair

The CEC stated that they had effectively controlled the issue of fabricated content prepared through deep fake and artificial intelligence during the 2024 general elections.

He said that all development work used to stop during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, but the Election Commission gave permission to 95-98 per cent of the projects within 48 hours of receiving the applications.

The Commission issued notices to top leaders to make the election process fair, registered FIRs against many and several top officials were also transferred.

Record turnout, vote from home for persons above 85 years age

The Chief Election Commissioner stated that they visited the homes of elderly citizens to collect their votes. He mentioned that voters aged 85 and above cast their votes from home.

During the press conference, it was disclosed that assistance was provided with 135 special trains, four lakh vehicles, and 1692 flats for the voice vote of approximately 1.5 crore polling and security personnel. It was informed that 68,763 monitoring teams were deployed to oversee the election process.

Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that they had set a world record by engaging 642 million voters. This is 1.5 times the voters of all G7 countries and 2.5 times the voters of the 27 countries of the European Union.

No banners, no fuss, peaceful voting

Regarding MCC (Model Code of Conduct) violations, he said that the EC took suo motu cognizance and published it twice. Over 90% of the 495 major complaints received were acted upon. Through press releases, everyone was informed about the actions taken.

There was no distribution of cash, liquor, or machines, and such incidents did not occur this time. The focus was not on overlooking what didn’t happen but rather on observing what did. It was noted that there were no banners or disturbances in rallies. The environment was reported to be very peaceful.
